The Global Center works to address the root causes of violent extremism. While they vary across regions and contexts, these include grievances stemming from poor governance, inequitable access to justice, economic and social marginalization, discriminatory policies, and the presence of conflict and violent groups.

Simultaneously, we work to enhance human rights-based approaches to counterterrorism by strengthening the capacity of government and civil society practitioners around the world. Our activities focus on four mutually reinforcing issue areas.

There is no universal solution to violent extremism, and what works in one community may be ineffective in another. The Global Center take a “whole of society” approach, drawing on a number of working methods.
