CGCC’s engagement in West Africa and the Sahel focuses on strengthening government and civil society partnerships for identifying and addressing conditions conducive to violent extremism, and assisting local stakeholders in developing national capacity and cooperation to counter terrorism in accordance with the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. Over the course of its work in the region, CGCC is collaborating with a diverse array of partners, including the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), the West African Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), international actors such as the United Nations and Global Counterterrorism Forum, and a range of local governmental and non-governmental organizations, facilitating the exchange of best practices, and the tailoring of innovative assistance programs to address country-specific and regional challenges.
