Join us in Supporting Women Affected by Violent Extremism

Women and girls are being disproportionally impacted by war, violence, and terrorism every day. Terrorist groups directly target them to achieve ideological and tactical objectives: they restrict women’s rights, engage in sexual and gender-based violence, and actively use them as suicide bombers.

To successfully prevent violent extremism and address the impacts of terrorism, women must be part of all levels of decision-making processes, from which they are currently often excluded. We will only achieve lasting peace when we invest in communities directly affected by violence and injustice and support women as community leaders, educators, peacebuilders, and human rights defenders.

At the Global Center, we center the roles of women and community organizations in our work, as we believe that responses to violent extremism must be fair and equitable. We work directly with women-led grassroots organizations and invest in community initiatives.

In Morocco, we partner with a network of 30 local organizations by providing training for their staff and volunteers and investing in their local initiatives so they can better support women who are impacted by violent extremism and other forms of violence.

In the Far North of Cameroon, we support grassroots organizations to promote peacebuilding and community governance – from launching a peace radio station to developing a leadership program for women responding to local security challenges.

But we cannot do this work alone; we need your help to make a lasting impact! A gift to the Global Center is an investment in women’s rights, security, and justice for all.

What our Partners are Saying

“I train lay counselors and civil society actors as first responders to survivors of the Boko Haram insurgency and was pleased to receive support from the Global Center to develop manuals on trauma consciousness and resilience. These manuals were used to deliver trainings to over 150 organizations across northeastern Nigeria and in coastal Kenya.”
