The Global Center supported co-chairs from the governments of Malaysia and the Untied States in the first of a series of ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) workshops aimed at strengthening aviation border control measures that counter terrorist threats, especially the threat of foreign terrorist fighters (FTF) travel, and to assist in the development of capacity and capabilities to effectively provide a secure civil aviation environment.

The first workshop focused on identifying ASEAN and ARF regional priorities and challenges on topics including FTFs, watch listing, individual screening measures, inspection of luggage and cargo, preventing insider threats, and the importance of passenger data exchange programs, such as Advanced Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record. The participants were also divided into breakout groups and giving the opportunity to share their own practices, procedure, and challenges when dealing with aviation security and information sharing, as well as solidifying priorities and areas of focus to help inform the next workshops in the series.
