CGCC hosted this roundtable with BBC World Service Africa Editor Mary Harper, author of Getting Somalia Wrong? Faith, War and Hope in a Shattered State. She recently returned from Mogadishu and discussed the evolving political developments in Somalia and offered insights from her new book. She was joined by Somalian Ambassador to the United Nations H.E. Dr. Elmi Ahmed Duale, representatives from several member state missions, and colleagues from civil society organizations, including Open Society, the International Crisis Group, and the International Peace Institute. Following her presentation, participants discussed the challenges facing the new presidency, the ongoing role of the African Union Mission to Somalia, the complex role of the diaspora in Somalia’s political economy, and the communiqué of the Secretary General’s Mini-Summit on Somalia, which took place in New York on 26 September 2012.
