CGCC convened key stakeholders to discuss the current progress and future direction of UN counterterrorism efforts. This retreat provided an opportunity for discussion among a small group of senior policymakers from within the UN Secretariat and agencies, Security Council, and General Assembly.

Discussions covered a wide range of issues relating to current and future UN counterterrorism work, including human rights; progress made in implementation of all four pillars of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Strategy; possibilities for strengthening integrated counterterrorism capacity-building through the UN system; the role of member states, operating through the Security Council, General Assembly, and beyond; regional organizations; and the important role of civil society.
