The Global Center together with the Australian High Commission hosted an expert workshop in London, focused on the management, rehabilitation, and reintegration of violent extremist offenders (VEOs). The focus of the workshop was to inform the creation of a compendium of best practices, funded by the Australian government and developed by Global Center. The compendium will support decision making among correctional policymakers and managers of prisons, community correction centers, and juvenile justice institutes in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and New Zealand.
Participants included practitioners, academics, intervention providers, and other relevant stakeholders to discuss emerging good and promising practices across several topics pertinent to the management of violent extremist offenders. These included prison governance, security, risk assessment, intervention, and reintegration, as well as the management of distinct groups of VEOs such as foreign terrorist fighters, women, and juveniles.
