The Global Center is pleased to announce two additions to its board: Laila Bokhari and David McGowan.

Laila Bokhari is a non-resident Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, a former State Deputy-Minister with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a State Secretary at the Office of the Norwegian Prime Minister. She was a member of the 22 July Commission (Breivik case), tasked with examining the terrorist attacks and their aftermath in Norway. She has worked with the United Nations Security Council al-Qaida/Taliban Monitoring Team and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe on counter-terrorism and human rights issues. She also served as a diplomat at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan. She has a long career as a researcher on security policy, counterterrorism, and violent extremism at institutes including the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, and King’s College London.

“The Global Center advances approaches to countering violent extremism that reinforce, rather than undermine, human rights and the rule of law. Through investing in the capacities of local communities and government practitioners, sustainable and just solutions are found. This is how real change is realized.” -Laila Bokhari

David McGowan is Vice President of Global Protection Services at Tiffany & Co. His responsibilities include oversight of the company’s global retail and supply chain security; investigations and business intelligence; emergency, incident, and continuity management; and the enforcement of programs to protect intellectual property and the Tiffany brand. “The Global Center is an organization of integrity and innovation. Through its hybrid approach bridging analysis and in-country programming, the Global Center puts forth solutions benefiting communities and relevant to global brands committed to sustainable development, security, and equity. I’m proud to support the Global Center, and I look forward to leveraging its important work across sectors.” -David McGowan
