With the support of the Government of Switzerland, the Global Center is undertaking a project to identify opportunities to strengthen the UN’s engagement with civil society in its efforts to counter terrorism and prevent the spread of violent extremism. The purpose of the project is to develop recommendations to enhance engagement between civil society and members of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact, building on the principles outlined in the Secretary General’s Call to Action for Human Rights. The Global Center is exploring ways in which relevant multilateral bodies and different parts of the UN system have sought to deepen their engagement with civil society, and how civil society has organized itself to enhance its influence on the work of multilateral bodies. The initiative publicly launched at an event during the 2021 UN Counter-Terrorism Week. The project is centered around a global civil society-led consultation process to solicit input from a wide spectrum of civil society actors.
