The Rome Memorandum on Good Practices for Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Violent Extremist Offenders and the Additional Good Practices on the Challenges and Strategies on the Management of Violent Extremist Detainees adopted by the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) provide authorities with a set of good practices and strategies when handling the rehabilitation and reintegration of violent extremists and the management of violent extremist detainees. To help support the GCTF’s new Detention and Reintegration Working Group, co-chaired by the governments of Australia and Indonesia, and further advance the implementation of the Rome Memorandum and Additional Good Practices, the Global Center will organize three regional workshops in 2015 and 2016 with support from the U.S. Department of State. The workshops will focus on priority issues identified by the working group, including for example the importance of training and capacity building for prison staff and the role of psychologists, educators, social workers, religious scholars, families, and communities in both rehabilitation and reintegration.
